- Hello Dorine! Can you tell us about your background?
I hail from Eastern Equatoria State in South Sudan, where I completed both my primary and secondary education. I later pursued a diploma in Public Administration and Management. My professional journey began with an internship in the Admin and Human Resources department at Across which soon transitioned into a full-time role that lasted over a year.
In 2017, I joined VSF-Suisse as a Human Resources intern. Within a year, I was promoted to HR/Operations Assistant, handling logistics and procurement. My dedication and performance led to another promotion—this time as Procurement & Logistics Officer, while also serving as the Security Focal Point, overseeing operations for the South Sudan country office.
Alongside my professional commitments, I’m currently in my final semester pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Procurement and Logistics Management. In fact, I have an exam scheduled right after this interview—wish me luck! (laughs)
- What motivated you to join VSF-Suisse?
I discovered a VSF-Switzerland project on child protection, which empowered vulnerable children to pursue education and develop practical life skills. I was deeply inspired by this mission, and I felt a strong calling to be part of an organization that creates real change within the most vulnerable communities. I believed that, through VSF-Suisse, I could meaningfully contribute to the well-being and future of children in my own community.
- Can you tell me how the current situation in South Sudan impacts you?
The current situation in South Sudan is highly unpredictable. While Juba remains relatively calm, many areas outside the capital are facing serious instability, with reports of violence and people arming themselves. This uncertainty affects everyone, making daily life difficult. On top of that, the rising cost of food and basic necessities has made survival increasingly challenging for many families, including my own.
- Can you share an outstanding achievement of which you are particularly proud while working with VSF-Suisse?
One of my most meaningful achievements at VSF-Suisse is the dedication and resilience I have demonstrated in carrying out my duties for the past five years. On top of all that, I’ve also been pursuing my university degree, often studying late into the night after a full day of operational duties. What gives me a deep sense of pride is that our external audit reports consistently reflect only minimal errors in my department. This stands as a testament to the diligence, integrity, and discipline I bring to my work every day. It hasn’t been easy, but knowing that my efforts directly contribute to the smooth functioning of the organization makes it all worthwhile.
- What are your hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy attending church and going to the gym.
- What is your favorite food ?
My favorite dishes are Malakuan (hibiscus), fish and Kudura (Jew’s mallow). These are traditional South Sudanese dishes. They contain sweet potatoes, which I particularly enjoy.
- What is your favorite animal and why?
I love cats and dogs. I have some at home because dogs provide security to humans and assets, while cats eat rats, which damage foodstuffs. (laughs)
Thank you for your engagement and good luck with your exams, Dorine!
