Goal
Contribute to improving the framework conditions that will enable livestock sector stakeholders, including the disadvantaged, in the Mopti, Timbuktu and Gao regions to have fair and sustainable access to natural resources, infrastructure, markets and quality services, thereby enabling the socio-economic development of businesses, including family farms, and job creation, particularly for the poor, women and young people.
- Stakeholders in the livestock-meat and dairy sectors strengthen their roles within the market systems of their respective sectors.
- Livestock umbrella organisations strengthen their capacity to provide appropriate and accessible services to their members at national, regional and local levels, while ensuring good governance and a sustainable financing strategy.
- The Local Authorities (technical services) of the Mopti and Timbuktu regions have integrated the priorities arising from the diagnostic study of the livestock-meat and milk sectors in terms of development and infrastructure into their planning and effectively manage the development and management of pastoral resources, in collaboration with the stakeholders.
Activities
- Analysing meat and dairy sectors (value chain analyses), prioritising sector investments.
- Developing sustainable financial and insurance products tailored to the needs of stakeholders with finance institutes.
- Supporting livestock organisations in livestock production (milk, meat) and herd management.
- Management, governance, business models, financing strategy and subsidiarity
- Strengthening National and sub-national livestock organisations in becoming operational.
- Supporting the organisations in developing their services and in achieving financial autonomy through income from the sale of services.
- Strengthening livestock organisations’ advocacy capacities, supporting multi-stakeholder platforms.
- Strengthening the capacities of public services in developing pastoral development plans for mgmt. of pastoral resources.
- Updating and monitoring such plans in strategic areas prioritised by the value chain analyses.
- Supporting conducive framework conditions for pastoral activities, e.g. via trainings on pastoral / rural land legislation.
- Supporting technical services in the rehabilitation, installation and monitoring of infrastructure and facilities, including proper financial and operational mgmt.
