Our strategic goals
Sustainable livestock farming creates food security and resilient livelihoods – even in times of climate crisis and instability.
The following three specific goals contribute to achieving this main goal.

Livestock-keeping communities have access to reliable veterinary services. Healthy animals provide safe food and stable incomes.
Livestock farmers operate sustainably and are climate-resilient. Agroecological methods strengthen their resilience and ensure long-term production.

Food producers and small market players have access to knowledge, technologies, and markets. Local value creation grows, generating income and jobs.

Our Contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Our work supports several goals of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and is guided by these global objectives.
Overall, our projects contribute to 10 of the 17 goals:

Our Approaches
VSF-Suisse is committed to applying systemic approaches:
One Health
We apply the One Health approach, integrating human, animal, and environmental health. This allows us to identify risks early and respond in a coordinated manner to health threats in rural areas.
Sustainable livelihoods
We strengthen economic, social, and institutional capacities – at the individual, organizational, and systemic levels. This fosters long-term sustainable structures.
Rights-based approach
We advocate for access to land, water, land ownership, and basic services. Our work is guided by human rights and sustainable development goals.
Gender equality
We promote the equal participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups. Access to resources and decision-making processes is specifically strengthened.
Agroecology
We promote agroecological practices adapted to local contexts – from sustainable pasture management to fostering agrobiodiversity. This increases the resilience of food systems.
Climate change and resource management
We strengthen the climate resilience of ecosystems through integrated land and water resource management, especially in drylands.
Inclusive markets
We support marginalized actors in accessing markets, technologies, financing, and climate-friendly solutions, thereby creating fair value chains.
Conflict sensitivity
We work in a conflict-sensitive manner in fragile contexts and promote the nexus between humanitarian aid, development, and peace.
