Livestock Support Programme Mali, phase II

Project overview
Background
In the regions of Mopti, Timbuktu, and Gao, many families depend on livestock farming and the trade in meat and dairy products. At the same time, limited access to markets, infrastructure, services, and natural resources hinders economic development and income generation—particularly for women and young people.
Objective
The project strengthens the meat and dairy sectors in northern Mali and improves the economic prospects of livestock keepers, producers, and local businesses. At the same time, local structures and services are expanded to promote sustainable development and employment in the long term.
Approach
VSF-Suisse strengthens the entire value chain surrounding meat and dairy production—from livestock husbandry to market access. Livestock breeding organizations receive support in production, herd management, financing, and organizational development so that they can support and represent their members in the long term.
At the same time, we collaborate with local authorities and technical services to expand infrastructure, manage pasture resources sustainably, and improve access to services. This creates stable conditions for sustainable economic development in the project regions.
