Improving food security, livelihoods and protection of agro-pastoral communities

Project overview
Background
South Sudan continues to be severely affected by the consequences of long-standing conflicts, displacement, natural disasters, and economic instability. Millions of people suffer from food insecurity, limited access to health services, and a lack of income opportunities.
Especially in rural regions, many families depend on agriculture and livestock farming. At the same time, diseases, climate-related crises, and a lack of supplies further exacerbate their difficult living conditions.
Objective
The project improves food security, income opportunities, and the resilience of affected communities in South Sudan. At the same time, it strengthens psychosocial support for children and families in fragile contexts.
Approach
VSF-Suisse supports households in establishing sustainable poultry production to improve nutrition and income. At the same time, we strengthen veterinary care through training for animal health workers, veterinary staff, and local professionals.
Through vaccinations, treatments, and access to veterinary medicines, we protect livestock and secure livelihoods. Additionally, the project promotes psychosocial support and local community structures to enhance the well-being of children and families as well as peaceful coexistence.
