Project overview
Background
In the Greater Upper Nile region of South Sudan, many communities are regularly affected by conflict, displacement, and climate-related disasters. Recurring crises make it difficult to access food, income, and basic services, and threaten the livelihoods of numerous families.
Objective
The THRIVE program strengthens the economic and social resilience of approximately 120,000 households in the states of Upper Nile, Unity, and Jonglei. It improves food security, income opportunities, and social cohesion in fragile contexts.
Approach
VSF-Suisse combines livelihood development measures with market strengthening, financial inclusion, and climate adaptation. Households and local small businesses in the livestock, fisheries, agriculture, and forestry sectors receive support in establishing sustainable sources of income.
At the same time, the program empowers women and youth, promotes social cohesion, and improves communities’ ability to respond to conflicts and climate shocks. The approach combines humanitarian aid, development cooperation, and peacebuilding in line with the Triple Nexus.
